Policy Statement

North Murray Diamond Sports Association Inc. is committed to ensuring that the safety, welfare and wellbeing of children are maintained at all times during their participation in activities run by the club.

North Murray Diamond Sports aims to promote a safe environment for all children and to assist all officials, coaches, members and volunteers to recognise child abuse and neglect and follow the appropriate notification procedures when reporting alleged abuse.

Objectives

  • To promote a safe and supportive environment for all children and young people participating in activities run by North Murray Diamond Sports.

  • To increase awareness and emphasise the importance of child protection issues in a sporting environment to all those involved with the activities of North Murray Diamond Sports.  This includes administrators, coaches, officials, players, parents and their children.

  • To promote the Play by the Rules website at www.playbytherules.net.au as a valuable source of information.  Play by the Rules provides information and online learning about how to prevent and deal with discrimination, harassment and child abuse for the sport and recreation industry.

Working With Children Check

All North Murray Diamond Sports volunteers must abide by and comply with the requirements of the Working With Children Check (WWC Check).  The WWC Check is a comprehensive criminal record check for certain people working with children in Western Australia.  Refer to www.checkwwc.wa.gov.au for information.  North Murray Diamond Sports cannot appoint a person to volunteer’s role if they have been convicted of a Class 1 offence.

  • coaches, umpires or team managers who are appointed or seeking appointment;
  • volunteer personnel appointed or seeking appointment, who will or are likely to travel away with teams of players under 18 years of age;
  • persons appointed or seeking appointment to a role in which that person is likely to have individual and unsupervised contact with players under 18 years of age and;
  • office bearers who are elected or appointed or seeking election or appointment.
  • North Murray Diamond Sports cannot appoint, or continue to appoint, a person to a role set out above:
  • without first obtaining a Prohibited Person’s Declaration; or
  • where this Declaration reveals the person is a Prohibited Person.

Responding to Discrimination, Harassment or Abuse Complaints

All discrimination, harassment or abuse complaints should be referred to the President of North Murray Diamond Sports who will take appropriate action to deal with the complaint in accordance with the club’s Grievance Guidelines.

Depending on the nature of the complaint, the President may choose refer the matter to a Member Protection Officer from one of the club’s affiliated state sporting associations.

Responsibility
